Symphonies of Blue explores the quiet, emotional language of colour and the sensation of flowers emerging from atmosphere. Rather than depicting a particular landscape or bouquet, I wanted the painting to suggest something remembered — fragments of nature suspended within shifting layers of blue.
I built the surface gradually, allowing soft, translucent passages to sit alongside more tactile palette-knife work. The delicate impasto marks gather and disperse across the canvas, creating a rhythm that feels almost musical. Some forms briefly become flowers before dissolving again into the surrounding colour.
The palette moves through powder blue, misty grey-blue and soft periwinkle into deeper notes of cobalt, ultramarine and inky navy. Broken whites and warm ivory bring luminosity, while subtle charcoal-grey passages give the composition depth and prevent the blues from becoming overly sweet.
I deliberately left generous areas of quieter, smoother space around the more concentrated marks. This contrast between stillness and movement allows the eye to travel through the painting, from the darker intensity in the upper right through the cascading fragments below.
For me, Symphonies of Blue has a feeling of serenity, freedom and gentle melancholy — like flowers caught in a passing breeze or a memory slowly disappearing into light.
