The Art of Lyrical Abstraction
I am inspired by the French Lyrical Abstract style—a balanced and elegant form of painting infused with the richness of the natural world and the radiance of colour. For me, abstraction is a way of expressing the deeply personal and emotive; it is a visual poetry that exists beyond words.
Philosophy & Evolution
My work explores the relationship between light, memory, and inner landscape. Through layered washes and subtle shifts in tone, I create atmospheric spaces that are felt rather than defined—suggesting fragments of place, emotion, and time.
Rather than depicting specific locations, these works reflect an internal geography—where memory dissolves into light, and form emerges through absence as much as presence. Each piece is part of an ongoing exploration of how we hold and experience fleeting moments: through atmosphere, through texture, and through the shifting language of the surface.
The Alchemy of Technique
My process is intuitive and material-led, allowing the surface to evolve gradually, often revealing traces of erosion, softness, and quiet transformation. I work with a technique of my own invention: a thickly layered surface of paint applied with a palette knife in meticulous impasto markings.
This sculpted texture allows light to dance across the canvas, bringing the abstraction to life. This signature "tactile" approach ensures that each painting is a living object—one that changes and breathes as the natural light in a room shifts throughout the day. My intention is to create work that invites the viewer into a space of intimacy and contemplation, leaving the subject open to their own interpretation.
