In Life is like a Rose, I wanted to explore the delicate, often messy, and ultimately breathtaking complexity of growth. This painting is an interpretation of the peaks and valleys we all navigate; for me, the rose is the perfect symbol of a life lived fully—fragile but vibrant, soft but resilient.
I used my palette knife to create a high-relief, almost sculptural center of deep magentas and crimson, allowing the colors to bleed and bloom against a stark, textured white background. I felt a profound sense of release while painting this, letting the oils drip and swirl to represent the parts of life we cannot control.
To me, the white space is just as important as the colour; it’s the breath between the moments of intensity.
