With Blue Summer, I wanted to capture the electric pulse of a midnight garden during the height of the season. For me, this piece is about the vibrant life that exists even when the sun goes down. I chose a deep, immersive background of midnight blue and rich indigo to represent the cool, mysterious air of a summer night in Provence.
Using my palette knife, I sculpted the white blossoms with an urgent, rhythmic energy, layering the acrylics so they feel like they are bursting toward the viewer. The small flickers of gold and citrus yellow represent the lingering warmth of the day—that hidden light that stays with us long after dark.
I felt a sense of profound excitement while painting this; it is my interpretation of the 'blue hour' where everything feels possible and beauty is at its most potent. I hope when you look at this work, you feel that same refreshing, nocturnal breeze and the timeless magic of a summer night.
