With Morning’s First Light, I wanted to capture that precise, quiet moment when the sun first breaks over the horizon in Provence, turning the landscape into a glow of gold and warmth.
It is a painting about hope and the beauty of a fresh beginning. I used a palette knife to create a very physical, rugged texture in the foreground, contrasted against a softer, more atmospheric sky.
This interplay of heavy impasto and light allows the painting to change throughout the day as the actual light in your room shifts, mirroring the very dawn that inspired it.
