With Le Champ de Fleurs Bleues (The Field of Blue Flowers), I wanted to capture the feeling of standing in a sudden sea of vibrant color under a bright, open sky. For me, this painting is about pure, unadulterated vitality. I felt an immense sense of joy while working on this piece, using my palette knife to build up the blue petals in thick, rhythmic clusters that seem to sway in an invisible breeze.
I chose these specific shades of cobalt and ultramarine because they carry an energy that is both electric and grounding. There is a deep dialogue here between the rugged, mossy greens of the earth and the airy whites of the clouds.
When I painted this, I wasn't just thinking of a landscape; I was thinking of the way beauty can feel like an invitation to just be present. I hope that when you look at this field, you feel that same rush of fresh air and the simple, profound happiness of a perfect summer day in Provence.
