Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso, Signac, Matisse, Braque, Derain, Dufy…  all great artists, who found their inspiration in the beautiful Provence landscape of ochre earth, twisted silvery olive trees, blue skies, red roofs, sunflowers, lavender fields and hilltop villages.

Today the south of France must be the best place in the world to appreciate the landscapes that inspired the masters and to see their work in several world-class museums.

Join me at Bastide la Belle for a creative journey to explore your inner artist.

With emphasis on exploring the creative use of colour, this acrylic painting workshop teaches you the fundamentals of composition, texture, and content.  You will apply heavy body paints, create texture, and learn how to add depth and dimension to your artwork. The workshop allows for ample painting time and the opportunity to explore your creative freedom.

You will be provided with acrylic paint, a painting knife, brushes and a small canvas. Just come in your play clothes. A light lunch will be provided.

My art workshop, based on the lyrical abstract style of painting, encourages experimentation, risk-taking, spontaneity and expression. Participants will develop conceptual ideas and explore various approaches to lyrical abstraction as they develop their own artistic voice through the work. Helpful visual information on lyrical abstraction will be provided with an emphasis on concept, composition, balance, color, design, form and symbolism. Both one-on-one and group critiques are aimed at enhancing individual growth. As participants work at their own level and pace, this program is open to both the emerging and established artist.

Three paintings will be completed, an abstract or semi-abstract seascape, landscape and floral. Inspiration will be taken from the paintings of the prominent lyrical abstract painters and used as visual aid. We will also spend some time at pre-scouted sites in the beautiful Provence landscape to paint en plein air.

During this week we will also have artists from the local community as guests to explain their techniques and different approaches.
