A beautiful girl called Emma

The color, shapes, and the subtle allusions in the title, leads you through the emotional subject of the work. There is a sense of radiance as the light moves through the painting. The work feels expansive, as if growing out beyond the confines of the canvas, creating space with the drama of its bold color, strong lines, and copious markings.

I created this painting with a palette knife, using an unique technique — a surface full of small stipples of paint from the painting knife, which results in a lovely textured surface. The flowers are done impasto style. In fine art, the Italian word 'Impasto' (dough or paste) denotes a painting technique in which undiluted paint is applied so thickly (like toothpaste) onto the canvas or panel (often with a palette knife) that it stands out from the surface. This decadent surface of different textures brings the painting to life.  This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished yellow edges. It comes satine varnished and ready to hang.
